Gore-Tex

Think Project

Film Series

Role: Producer

Gore-Tex: ‘Think Project’ film series shone a light on experts in their field whose jobs or hobbies rely on their clothing to offer reliable weather protection, so that they can execute their role come wind, rain, or anything else that mother nature could throw at them.

I produced the 2 films for this series.

Filming in Iceland & Manchester

Lightmark - Light painting

We took light painting artist duo Lightmark to Iceland to see them capturing their images - part time-lapse photography, part performance-art their visual artwork - in the iconic Icelandic landscape. We followed them traverse the country, sketching concepts and capturing their final work at dusk - weathering the winds and rains thanks to their Gore-Tex clothing.

In their own words:

“At dusk, when other landscape photographers stow away their equipment, we get ready to work. Whether its in the windswept patagonian desert or in the icy northern part of Norway: wherever we travel we explore landscapes that reveal a magic beauty in the dark. A bit of moonlight, a faint glow of northern lights, some modified torches or a carefully placed fire: that is all it takes to uncover what is hidden in the dark. And when the sun comes up the next morning, no trace remains to show that we have ever been there”.

Pep Guardiola - Football Manager

We followed iconic Manchester City Manager and Head Coach Pep Guardiola as he ran a football session at the Etihad training academy. We hear about his focus when running these sessions, and the need to be prepared for any weather conditions in football, particularly in Manchester where often 4 seasons can occur within the same few hours.

THINK ABOUT YOUR PASSION.

DON’T THINK ABOUT WEATHER PROTECTION.

DON’T THINK ABOUT GORE-TEX.

My Role & challenges

I produced these films, working closely with the Director to develop the creative and plan our logistics.

Filming in the natural wonders of Iceland required finding a key production partner who could help us maximise our time on the ground within our limited budget. I sourced our service company who could offer these smaller scale production services, unlike most options in the country.

Pre-production was crucial in identifying and securing specific locations that worked both narratively and visually as the backdrop for our film. Ice Caves, black sand beaches and  .

A key decision was to prioritise additional days on the ground vs a larger crew - taking only our DOP & Director. This decision proved prudent when storm winds hampered our travel schedule around Iceland.

We collaborated with the talented local multi-skilled photographer, drone pilot, and videographer Benjamin Hardman. He served as both an additional local guide and as our drone operator, and his 4x4 Land Rover became a key prop in the film. Engaging local crew with diverse skills is an effective strategy for maximising budget and enhancing production value.

Collaborating with Pep Guardiola and his team necessitated a flexible approach to accommodate their demanding schedules and VIP status. Given the constraints of the Etihad training campus and its staff, effective communication and diplomacy were essential to maintain alignment throughout the pre-production and filming process. With a limited shooting window, meticulous planning between the production team and the first assistant director ensured that all necessary footage was captured.
